We had a wonderful afternoon on Thursday 18th January for the Home-Start Volunteer Awards.
The awards, which are hosted by Home-Start UK, celebrate our volunteers and acknowledge some of the outstanding contributions made within the Home-Start network over the last year.
We were delighted to have 4 of our volunteers recognised at the awards ceremony this year:
Ellie Meek from Newlands Home Bakery in Cathcart won the Corporate Volunteer of The Year award. Ellie and the fantastic team at the local bakery have been providing free home-baking and breakfast items for over 60 families at our Warm Place in Pollokshaws over the last year.
Edwina & Lynne were both shortlisted in the Group Volunteer Award category for the work they have carried out at our Warm Place in Pollokshaws. They have been a huge part of the weekly group by making families feel welcome and comfortable, being a listening ear for parents/carers and engaging in play with the children.
Alana received Special Recognition for going over and beyond her role as a Home-Start Glasgow South Volunteer. Alana spent her summer break from School volunteering at the Warm Place. She initiated fun games for the children to take part in and spent time talking with the older children, helping them feel understood.
Here are what some of our families had to say about our nominees:
“I don’t always have the luxury of Home-Baking, so the items from Newlands Home Bakery are such a nice treat!”
“Having a variety of breakfast options and treats from Newlands Home Bakery makes the Warm Place so homely”
“The Warm Place gives me companionship and friendship. Edwina and Lynne are so welcoming and I feel a sense of belonging coming here”
“Edwina and Lynne have set the tone at the Warm Place that it’s an inclusive community, by making everyone feel welcome and reducing isolation for parents/carers.”
“I can talk to Alana, I don’t always find it easy talking to people”
“Alana blew in like a breath of fresh air, the way she gives the older children time to chat with her, you can see what it means to them. Her laugh and energy for play has brought them so much fun!
We are so proud of all the incredible work our volunteers do, and it was very special to have some of our nominees acknowledged at the awards ceremony this year.
