Weekly Group Support

The support that Home-Start Glasgow South offers outside of families homes follows the same high standard as home visiting support. These groups are organised and delivered by both staff and volunteers and are set up in accordance to needs of the local community in various areas around South Glasgow.

Mums N Bumps

Monday      10:00 am – 11 am 

The Pearce Institute, 840 – 860 Govan Road, G51 3UU

Our Mums N Bumps Group takes place on a Monday morning for expectant and new mums.

The main purpose of this group is to provide expectant and new mums with the opportunity to meet others, reduce loneliness and isolation and provide the chance to share new experiences, challenges or unknowns.

Mums can create new friendships which makes coming back to the group for support once baby is born easier.

Dads & Weans

Tuesday      10:00 am 

Merry-Go-Round, 34 Nithsdale Rd, Glasgow, G41 2AN     

Dads & Weans group is run in partnership with Merry-Go-Round and continues to draw in dads with children under the age of 2.

The group is a safe space for dads to talk, share notes on parenting or family life and encourage each other. Dads also spend quality time bonding with baby, enjoying stories, songs and games which encourage your child’s development. Whether you are dad on paternity leave or a stay-at-home dad, all are welcome to the group.

Toddle-In

Tuesday & Wednesday      10:00 am – 11.15 am        

Castlemilk Parish Church, 1 Dougrie Road, Castlemilk, G45 9NP       

Our Tuesday Toddle-In Group has proven to be extremely popular since its inception. The group offers an opportunity for parents to get together while their children have fun with other children through play and different activities each week. Age appropriate activities are used which require parent/carer involvement to encourage positive relationships.

Tea, coffee, and biscuits are provided for parents, with snacks available for children.

Parent’s & Tots

Thursday    1.15 pm – 2.45 pm 

Penilee Community Centre, 10 Gleddoch Rd, Glasgow,  G52 4BD

This is a friendly, fun group where parents and children get the opportunity to play and meet new friends. The group enjoys arts and crafts activities as well as music and dancing sessions. Similar to Toddle-In, activities for the children and parent/carer take part in are organised to help strengthening bonding and attachment. In both our toddler groups, attendees are encouraged to mix with others and share experiences which can help reduce loneliness and isolation.

Family Wellbeing Group

Friday    9.30 am

Pollokshaws Burgh Hall, 2025 Pollokshaws Rd, Glasgow, G43 1NE

Family Well-Being Group meets on a Friday morning. The group brings families together in a social setting to take part in activities such as arts and crafts, health & well-being sessions, pottery and meditation. The groups helps in building parent/carer’s confidence and establishing friendships in a safe space.

Baby Massage

Dates are flexible to meet family needs.

On a one-to-one basis, we will teach you techniques which can help relax and sooth your baby, help build your confidence when handling them and promote bonding and attachment with your baby as well as open new ways of interacting and communicating, all in the secure and familiar surroundings of your own home.

Creative Play

Our Creative Play session travel around schools in the Southside of Glasgow in 8-week blocks. These take place in term time only.

Creative Play is one of our flagship programs. The sessions are highly interactive, extremely good fun and sometimes a bit messy!

It draws on all our years of experience, running different styles of family groups and squeezes the best bits into an intensive 8 week course which has been designed to stimulate children’s creative juices and encourage parents and children to work, play and generally enjoy spending time together.

Our next block of Creative Play takes place in Castleton Primary from 31st January 2023.

Dad’s Antenatal Workshops

Our Dad’s Antenatal Workshop helps dads-to-be better understand their baby, reduce their own stress and be a better support for their partner. The session aims to provide a map of what labour and birth can be, including dealing with any unexpected challenges during the process.

Our FREE workshop takes place once a month in person in the New Victoria Hospital, 55 Grange Rd, Glasgow, G42 9LL in Clinic J on the first floor from 6 pm – 8.30 pm. If you would like to reserve a space, click here.

Dads Antenatal Classes have been tailored to the experience of dads to be and has been developed in partnership with NHS Midwifery Services. Workshops are also supported by NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, The Henry Smith Charity, Cattanach and The National Lottery Community Fund.

The Warm Place

Tuesday & Wednesday 9.15 am – 11.30 am

Pollokshaws Burgh Hall, Pollokshaws Rd, Glasgow, G43 1NE

The Warm Place provides a warm, welcoming space for parents/carers to attend after school drop off. This community club is open to any families across the Southside of Glasgow who may be feeling isolated, struggling financially or needing some support due to the impact of the cost of living crisis.

Attendees can receive a warm welcome, some free breakfast and browse items in our swap shop which includes warm coats, blankets, clothing and accessories for children.

Over the coming months, local business and professionals will be joining us to be able to chat to families looking for more information on financial support, mental health and well-being and other assistance which may be available to them in the area.

Parents and carers are able to come along on their own, with friends or bring their children along. Families do not need to be supported by Home-Start Glasgow South, all families, parents and/or carers are welcome.
